Botta Buena. The name honors the architect of the building in the back, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the building in the foreground, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
Mario Botta designed the red brick building with the unique atrium tower that looks out across San Francisco. Opened in 1995 it was to be the second largest modern art museum in the United States. I have been there many times and it is a wonderful experience. You can vist their website here.
Opened to the public in 1993, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts is a cultural site situated in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens neighborhood. The center is home to contemporary art, performance art, film, civic engagement, and public life. You can visit their website here.
This image was taken from The Upper Terrace of the Sister City Garden of the YBCA and shows the front of the theater. You can just see the new addition to the MOMA being built behind the tower.
